What is MB&T?

The MB&T group is interested in promoting the development and advancement of tourism and businesses of all sizes and description in Macclesfield and its surrounding region. We are an active group of business owners and other likeminded individuals meeting at least once a month. We facilitate networking and cross promotion of local businesses. Our thrust is to develop and promote opportunities for local tourism so that local businesses can benefit from it.

The Opportunity

Macclesfield and its surrounding region hold a particular charm because it has neither, major residential nor light industrial areas. This region is a particular unspoiled part of southern Adelaide Hills in general and the southern Mount Barker Council region in particular.

We believe that there exists considerable scope for further developing tourism along the Hahndorf to Strathalbyn scenic routes. We believe that the development and promotion of one or more destinations along those scenic routes is vital for not only arresting business decline but for actually growing business in this area.

Many businesses that do exist in the area already operate fully or partially in the tourism space. These businesses may be B&B's and other accommodations, wineries, restaurants, pubs and shops. If tourism grows by having more visitors stop and spend time in the area, then these businesses grow. This in turn will stimulate and support other businesses that are not necessarily directly operating in the tourism area.

The opportunity is to stimulate local business by creating event destinations that offer an experience that is unique to those that may be found at the start and finishing points of the scenic routes.

Our Committee

Chair: Ken Smith
Ken is a Macclesfield Resident. He is a local business owner and he is pleased to be at the helm of promoting business and tourism in our wonderful town.

Secretary: Gemma May
Gemma has been a lifelong Macclesfield resident. She is the director / owner of a local Conveyancing practice Assured Conveyancing, and is passionate about promoting the business sector within Macclesfield and surrounds.

Public Officer / Assistant Secretary: Sara May
Sara is also a lifelong Macclesfield resident. She is a Chartered Accountant in the Adelaide Hills and is looking forward to bringing fresh ideas to the Macclesfield Business and Tourism Association.

Treasurer: Frank Samson
Frank was a founding member MB&T and has resided in Macclesfield for over 20 years. His goal is to help assist local businesses in the area especially small businesses do either work out of home or live in the area. Frank believes active cross promotion of businesses within Macclesfield would see business growth for all.

Executive Committee Member: Christine Cain
Christine has been on the executive committee for 3 years now and is the representative for Derrick Cain Furniture Design and Manufacture. The Cains have been in Macclesfield for 11 years and in business for six years.

Executive Committee Member: Yvonne Alexander
Yvonne is one of the owners of the Macclesfield General Store, she is focused on building her business and promoting other businesses that are healthy for the town. She is interested in preserving the things we all love about Macclesfield while managing business growth in a complimentary to the nature of the town.
